Purchasing your wii component cables

All game consoles include a Composite Video cable set, but not wii component cable set. It is important to note that these cables come with a special connector that will only work with that type of console. If you wish to use one of the different connections, you will usually need to purchase it separately. These cables can be found from your local stores. In my experience, buying the cable from the manufacturer yields the best results. I have also used an inexpensive “universal” cable, which can connect to a variety of different consoles, but of course for best performance you should always look for a wii component cable set. These can be useful if you have more than one console at home.

As for price, they are usually under USD$10 depending on the console and type of connector you wish to use. There is absolutely NO need to spend $50 or more on the so-called “premium” cables. The store may try to sell you how these pricey wii component cables give you better quality picture or sound, but chances are, he's only trying to make a larger commission. Unless you need to run the cable over a distance of 50 feet (~16M), or you plan on using your game console on top of a radio broadcasting tower, the only place you will notice a difference with these cables is at the cash register.

Besides the wii component cable, it is similar for the optical audio cable. While more expensive cables will be slightly more flexible, they do nothing for the signal quality. Just purchase the cheapest cable that will be long enough for your needs. Remember, this cable relies on light shining through the enclosed fiber optic cable. Do not sharply bend or twist this cable, or you will snap the fiber, which will prevent the light from shining through.

Wii Component Cable

Wii Component Cable

Does it really make a difference for using wii component cable? Is it going to improve the graphics quality? Our conclusion is YES! Using wii component cable to connect to your TV will really make a difference for producing higher quality for you.

The definition and color produced by using the default composite cable comes with the Wii package are far not comparable with the quality produced by using a wii component cable. You will be able to observe that with the wii component cable, the images on your screen with have much higher definition and more true color as well. Usually, the composite cable will produce a blueish tint, whereas the wii component cable is able to give you a nice back color.

If you play a Wii game with a component cable, you will notice that images are produced with much better texture quality and clarity. Another obvious improvement is the picture frame jaggy. With the default composite cable comes with your Wii package, jaggy pictures are very obvious. In contrast, if you replace it with a wii component cable, you will notice that jaggies are reduced and images on screen look smoother than before. In addition, picture frames produced by using a composite cable are usually blur with brown-white smears, whereas frames produced by a wii component cable is sharper and smoother in appearance especially if you are reading text on the screen. Wii component cables definitely will makes text looks sharper and clear to read.

Nowadays, almost all Wii games support progressive scan (480p) output which will produce a sharper and brighter picture on an HDTV. Therefore, if you have an HDTV, you'll get better color saturation and less image noise which makes it much more enjoyable when playing your addictive Wii games such as Zelda Twilight Princess. So a wii component cable is a wii accessory that is highly recommended.
