Purchasing your wii component cables

All game consoles include a Composite Video cable set, but not wii component cable set. It is important to note that these cables come with a special connector that will only work with that type of console. If you wish to use one of the different connections, you will usually need to purchase it separately. These cables can be found from your local stores. In my experience, buying the cable from the manufacturer yields the best results. I have also used an inexpensive “universal” cable, which can connect to a variety of different consoles, but of course for best performance you should always look for a wii component cable set. These can be useful if you have more than one console at home.

As for price, they are usually under USD$10 depending on the console and type of connector you wish to use. There is absolutely NO need to spend $50 or more on the so-called “premium” cables. The store may try to sell you how these pricey wii component cables give you better quality picture or sound, but chances are, he's only trying to make a larger commission. Unless you need to run the cable over a distance of 50 feet (~16M), or you plan on using your game console on top of a radio broadcasting tower, the only place you will notice a difference with these cables is at the cash register.

Besides the wii component cable, it is similar for the optical audio cable. While more expensive cables will be slightly more flexible, they do nothing for the signal quality. Just purchase the cheapest cable that will be long enough for your needs. Remember, this cable relies on light shining through the enclosed fiber optic cable. Do not sharply bend or twist this cable, or you will snap the fiber, which will prevent the light from shining through.

I have found that the price of wii component cables is cheaper in HK. Including shipment,it is still cheaper than order one within UK.
